synopsis

August 1997. As the Pope arrives in Paris for World Youth Day, 23-year old Jonas, a young Jewish father, is grappling with the ancestral obligation of burying his newly circumcised son's foreskin. To make a tough task tougher, Jonas is unknowingly pursued by a bunch of heavies hired by a jealous husband. To make things harder still, he bumps into a young Romanian girl who is an ardent fan of Pope John-Paul II and a "collector of auras" to boot. Will Jonas let himself be swayed from his age-old duty, or will he find a way to live with his roots and find himself as a father? Dante Desarthe has been directing and producing films since 1986. The three short films he made between 1987 and 1990 all won awards. "Fast" (1994), his debut feature with Karin Viard and Frederic Gelard, was awarded the Grand Prize at the SRF's "Rencontres des Premiers Films" Festival in 1995, as well as the Hachette Foundation Prize.
