synopsis

From a Germany that was then a collection of small and independent states, George Louis of Hanover succeeded the throne of England. He left behind him a prisoner in the Castle of Ahlden - a woman whose story he determined should die with her - the story of his wife, Sophie Dorothea. "Saraband For Dead Lovers" tells that story; the tragedy of a girl forced for political reasons into a loveless marriage.
